Social Embeddedness Opportunities

This digital newsletter is designed to strengthen ASU's culture of Social Embeddedness by connecting community engaged faculty and staff with insights into the local and national dialogue on community engagement in higher education, as well as other resources and professional development opportunities.

  • 2018 Graduate College Knowledge Mobilization Impact Awards: Join the Graduate College as they celebrate and showcase the innovative ways graduate students and post-doctoral scholars are advancing public-serving scholarship. Thursday, April 26th, 2018 in the Student Pavilion, Senita B&C, Tempe campus, 2-4pm. Conferences and Journals

  • Journal of Educational Psychological Consultation Call for Papers: The journal invites submissions of manuscripts for their special issue on educational and psychological consultations within Community-University Partnerships (e.g. schools, clubs, clinics, community centers, etc.) More information can be found here. Abstracts should be submitted by Friday, May 4, 2018.

     
  • International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement Conference, July 18-20, 2018 in New Orleans, LA. More info here

     
  • 19th Annual Engaged Scholarship Consortium: Transforming Higher Education through Engaged Scholarship. Hosted by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities on September 30-October 3, 2018 in Minneapolis, MN. More info here

  • The Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement has released its latest issue: Vol 22, No 1 (2018)

Grants and Awards

  • Civic Learning in the Major by Design mini-grants to support departmental discussions and redesigns. The Association for American Colleges & Universities invites departments from colleges and universities in the United States to apply for mini-grants ($500–$850) to enhance civic learning and democratic commitments for their majors. Grants are intended to facilitate departmental discussions about how to design pathways through which civic learning and social responsibility are understood as integral parts of students' majors and dimensions of their disciplinary or interdisciplinary study. More info here .   • 2018 Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award, an annual national Campus Compact award, which recognizes senior faculty members (post-tenure or middle-to-late career if not in tenure line) is now accepting nominations from community partners, college presidents, provosts, or through self-nomination. Winners will receive a $2,000 award, free conference registrations and travel to attend the Campus Compact conference where the recipient and finalists will be honored. More info about the award and previous winners here. Nominations can be submitted here Nomination deadline: Thursday, May 31, 2018.  

     
  • 2018 Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty call for award nominations through the Swearer Center at Brown University in partnership with the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU). More info hereApplication deadline: June 1, 2018.
