Inspired by our partners at Ignite Phoenix, below are the rules and regulations for Ignite @ ASU.
Presentation Format
Each presentation must follow the Ignite Format which means a PowerPoint presentation of 20 slides that automatically change every 15 seconds.
Open and Community Based
Just because this event is at ASU does not mean that it is just for students and staff. This event is open to the public and anyone can submit his or her idea for a presentation. If you have something interesting to share, we want to hear it from you, as long as you stick to the format (20 slides for 15 seconds each).
Make it Interesting!
Presentation submissions will be judged first and foremost on how interesting they are. We have a new theme every semester to encourage community collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
No Keynotes
All presentations will be given equal standing. We do not have “featured” presenters, keynotes, or special slots for presenters. Let your submissions speak for themselves on their own merit.
Bias/Pitches/Span
We want Ignite to be about promoting and sharing burning ideas. If those ideas happen to take the form of the company or student organization you are a part of, the startup you’re trying to get funded, or any other self-serving commercial interest, then so be it. We’re fine with it, really. But whatever you present had better be interesting, because that’s what it’s going to be judged on in people’s minds. If we feel that your presentation is pitchy, you won’t get chosen, and if you are chosen and then become pitchy, we reserve the right to request that you change it.
The Rest of the Rules
Selected presenters shouldn’t do anything that’s going to get you or us in trouble. We try very hard to keep the presentation at a PG-13 level and we ask that all presenters do the same. Because this event is open to the public and presenters should avoid using language and visuals which are graphic, disturbing or suitable only for mature audiences.
