The Girl Effect

A junior at Arizona State University, Nesima Aberra decided to support the Girl Effect, after reading Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. The Girl Effect is an organization that empowers and helps girls around the world gain a better life through a variety of programs.

During her Ignite @ ASU presentation, Nesima explained that girls are essential to achieve social justice, eliminate poverty, prevent foreseeable humanitarian crises and stabilize the population. “It sounds crazy, but it works,” she shared.

How can a girl be the answer to so many of the world’s problems?

Watch Nesima’s video to learn more about the Girl Effect and to become part of the movement to empower young women around the world. If you are an interested student looking for a student organization to join, follow Nesima on twitter @NesimaAberra and help her create change for girls around the world.
