“Figuring out what the local Phoenix-metro community (and world) needs now”

Presenter Name: Tomas Carrillo

For more than 25 years, the TED Conference has been bringing together great minds to help solve the world’s problems through great ideas worth spreading.  This is not a conference on how to increase your ROI or create high impact marketing plans; it’s a conference on how to solve the real problems faced by our local and global communities.

ASU Civil Justice Clinic

Presenter Name: Patrick Camuñez

The presentation will describe the mission of the ASU Civil Justice Clinic and its role within the community.  It will highlight the type of cases accepted and clients served.  While the Civil Justice Clinic works on a variety of civil issues, this presentation will mainly focus on two types of cases.  First, the presentation will highlight the collaborative relationship between the ASU Civil Justice Clinic and ABA Military Pro Bono Project, Luke AFB, and the AZ National Guard in helping deployed servicemembers and their families.  In a variety of situations there is a need for legal assistance based around the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and other federal and state laws where the Civil Justice Clinic can and does help.  Second, the presentation will highlight the assistance the Civil Justice Clinic is providing to unemployed individuals in unemployment appeal hearings.  When a person is denied unemployment benefits the Clinic is able to provide representation for hearings and appeals.  This will also focus on the collaborative effort between Community Legal Services and the ASU Civil Justice Clinic.

Collaboration for the Arts and Arts Education

Presenter Names: Brenda Sperduti, Michael Soto

The presentation will be a look at the collaborative approach that AzCA/AA utilizes in our work to build the arts, culture and arts education communities of Arizona. We will use the Arts Education Advocacy Outreach program as a model for our collaborative approach to the work that our organization as a whole conducts in every aspect. The AEAO program works in collaboration with the state of Arizona, a national program, businesses, community organizations and school districts throughout the state. This program seeks to build state wide support for Arts Education in K-12 schools and we know that this mission can only be accomplished through a collaborative approach. Collaboration is deeply rooted in the AEAO program beginning with the planning stages for the program, continued in community involvement through the committee that oversees the program and in the everyday work with educators and school districts.

Real-world learning opportunities in sustainability – From classroom into the real-world
